OUR PARTNERS

Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) is the coordinating organisation of APPFlow. QUB is a research-intensive university based in Belfast, United Kingdom and is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of Universities. The Russell Group “represents 24 leading UK universities…committed to maintaining the very best research, an outstanding teaching and learning experience and unrivalled links with business and the public sector”. These universities have a significant impact on life in the UK and across the world and Russell Group membership is a hallmark of quality.

QUB excels at exploiting research and collaborating with industrial partners and it is one of the top three Russell Group universities for intellectual property commercialisation, and has created over 70 spin-out companies. In the last ten years there has been significant investment into facilities at QUB, with relevant examples being the McClay Library and the Graduate School. In the case of the Graduate School, this will provide a wide range of outstanding training opportunities for APPFlow ESRs.

The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is the only combined School in the United Kingdom and as such allows for unparalleled interaction and collaboration between chemists and chemical engineers. The School is well-equipped and has research strengths in catalysis, organic chemistry and reaction engineering. Indeed, APPFlow academic supervisors have experience of developing continuous flow processes, including those involving industrial collaborations and they are therefore, well placed to support the ESRs in their research and deliver the objectives of APPFlow.

The other beneficiary is Arran Chemical Company (part of the Almac Group) which is based in Athlone, Ireland. It is a fine chemical company, specialising in the manufacture of products for pharmaceutical and health care, flavour/fragrance, personal care, and other specialised chemical and industrial applications. It has experience over a wide range of modern synthetic reactions, and has been active for more than 25 years in process development and scale up of new projects.

Almac is a group of established businesses at the forefront of the Pharmaceutical industry. The Company is a recognised global knowledge-based leader for the research, development and delivery of pharmaceutical services. Almac's services extend from drug discovery through all areas of clinical trials to the commercialisation of pharmaceutical products. The Almac Group will act as a partner and ESRs will benefit from training courses provided by industrial experts not only at Arran but at their Global and EU Headquarters in Craigavon site in Northern Ireland.
